Class: Hedgehogs Year: 2020 - 2021

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all doing well.  I wanted to let you know about all the exciting work we have been doing in Hedgehogs this week.

In English we have become authors and have written our own pirate stories based on Mungo and the Picture Book Pirates.  All the children worked really hard, and we have begun publishing our stories, ready to turn them into pirate scrolls so they can bring them home and show you.

In maths we have been thinking about subtracting numbers within 50 such as 35 - 3 and 47 - 6.  We have been using dienes and the drawing method to help us.  I have attached a maths cheat sheet below if you'd like to see how we use the drawing method.

In History we learned all about Jane Goodall and the work she has done with the WWF and chimpanzees.  We have thought about keeping our teeth clean in RSHE and created our own comic strips to help teach pirates how to clean their teeth.  In RE we have listened to different Buddhist stories and in science we created our own imaginary animals and labelled their features.

We have loved PE this week, we got to go swimming, had some scooter training and carried on with our dance as part of the Break Out Dance Project.

We have had a very busy week and we are all very proud of how hard the Hedgehogs have worked.

Have a lovely weeked,

Miss Sutherland, Miss Peersman, Mrs Hurst and Mrs Field
