DIS Sports Premium

What is the Sports Premium?

The Government is providing funding of £150 million per annum since 2013 to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school head teachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.

The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Purpose of funding

Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Possible uses for the funding include:

  • Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE

  • New or additional Change4Life sport clubs

  • Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport

  • Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport

  • Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games

  • Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport

  • Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and holiday clubs.

How is Dobcroft Infant School spending the Sports funding and who will benefiting?

At Dobcroft Infant School we believe that the money must be used so that: all children benefit regardless of sporting ability; that the children are given the opportunity to experience a variety of different sporting activities, and increase participation in school sport. We also aim to ensure that staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development. Finally, parts of this money will be used to maintain and improve the school’s PE equipment and resources.

The school has used the Sports Premium to buy into the Sheffield Sports Partnership. The Sports Partnership provides training for PE coordinators and Head Teachers. The partnership meetings also provide opportunities to meet with PE coordinators from other schools and to find out about coaching and training available to schools through meeting directly with trainers and coaches approved by the Sheffield Sports Partnership.

Please view our Sports Premium Funding Evaluation Documents for more detailed information on how Sports Premium Funding is spent at Dobcroft Infant School.

    Measuring Impact

The impact of the Sports Premium funding was evaluated as part of our normal self-evaluation and provision mapping arrangements. The below documents outline how Sports Premium funding has been spent at our school, and then outlines the intended impact and evaluation of its actual impact within school. Each year the Head teacher and PE co-ordinator will evaluate how the money has been spent for that year, and then use this information to inform our school’s budget for the upcoming year. This will also be a time when we reflect on our progress towards the priorities for PE within school, and start looking ahead to our priorities for the upcoming year.

To measure impact we look at how well we use our Sport Premium to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sporting provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of. This will include progress in PE as well as other areas of development, and the number of pupils actively participating in sporting activities both within and outside of school.
