DOBCROFT INFANT SCHOOL

Welcome back!

What a great week back at school after the half term holidays Rabbits!

Last week we were learning all about Diwali, the Hindu festival of light. We also talked about bonfire night safety, made our own firework displays using the interactive whiteboard and had great fun in the dark tent in our role play area. Most of the Rabbits said that their favourite part of last week was making Parkin (dairy free!). We made the parkin together, talking about the different ingredients we would need to use. We all helped Mrs Hurst with the different steps for the recipe, and couldn't wait for the parkin to be ready so that we could have a taste! Some of us loved the taste of the parkin and others weren't so sure, but we all had a great time making it. Afterwards, we wrote the recipe, trying to see whether we could remember the ingredients we used and what we did for each step.

This week Rabbits, along with the rest of Year One, are learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We have been naming them, learning songs about them, and many of us are beginning to use mathematical vocabulary to talk about their properties.

Our star words for this unit are;

2D

surface

corner

side

3D

edge

face

vertex or vertices

curved

straight

If you would like any of these terms explaining further, please speak to Miss Dray or Mrs Hurst, we're happy to help!

Our story this week is 'Winnie the Witch'. We are learning to describe the characters in the story using adjectives, and have begun to write simple sentences using an adjective about our favourite characters. We have been talking about what we would do if we had a magic wand. There have been some great spells about tidying bedrooms, lacing up shoes and brushing teeth!

Our SEAL topic this half term is 'Getting on and falling out'. We have been talking in our PSHE and P4C lessons about how to be a good friend and what we can do to help each other.

Keep checking back for photos and videos of Rabbits and Squirrels classes enjoying some great Diwali dancing!
